You also have the choice to stay at the 3 star Hole-in-the-Wall Hotel. Day 2: Spend another day at “The Hole in the Wall”, at a spectacular beach in the area, do a hike along the coast, explore Coffee Bay and mingle with the locals during a traditional Xhosa village experience. (https://mg.co.za/article/2019-04-23-mini-guide-to-coffee-bay-eastern-cape ) Day 3: Breakfast follows the drive to another spectacular holiday resort on the stunning Wild Coast in the Eastern Cape. This unique Wild Coast hotel is the perfect place for a peaceful, tranquil holiday or for the more adventurous traveler wanting to experience the many amazing natural treasures like waterfalls and forests this coast has to offer. You are free to do hikes or relax on the pristine beaches for the rest of the day, and spend the night here.(https://mbotyi.co.za/) Day 4: Breakfast follows the hike to the spectacular 93 metre high Waterfall Bluff, one of only a few waterfalls on Earth that plunge directly into the ocean. The only way to get there is via the Waterfall Bluff hiking Trail. It requires a bit of effort to do this but the rewards are immense. This remains one of the most exciting walks for the seasoned hiker. If you do a return trip from the lodge, the distance is 28km, where you will see undisturbed, clear streams and ascend up the back of Sugarloaf Hill to a plateau. Your guide will also point out the Eggossa fault to you. A highlight along this route is to see one of the endemic Mkambati palms, which are indigenous to this area. Walking along the cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean where whales and dolphins abound, you will come across Cathedral Rock, a well- known landmark. After crossing the Mlambomkulu River, with its pristine pools, the trails lead you down to the coast and Waterfall Bluff. The cliffs form a huge overhanging cave, called Grotto Cave and supplies excellent shade. We stay at a lodge in the area for the night. (https://mbotyi.co.za/) Day 5: The Hibiscus coast with its inviting stretch of Indian Ocean which sometimes presents the year-round delights of frolicking dolphins and majestic, cruising whales, provide the spectacular scenery for the drive to Durban (King Shaka) International Airport where we leave you, or you consider doing more tours with Amatungulu Tours. • Mapungubwe | South Africa | Amatungulu Tours | African Kingdom

3-day - Mapungubwe Amazement Discover an ancient African Kingdom, Southern Africa’s first, established at Mapungubwe Hill between 1200 and 1290 AD. Home to a powerful tribe that flourished on trading with Eastern cultures such as China and India, Mapungubwe saw the rise and fall of this great civilisation more than 700 years ago. This is the place where archaeologists excavated the famous golden rhino and other evidence of a wealthy African kingdom. The Kingdom of Mapungubwe World Heritage Site was a medieval state in South Africa located at the confluence of the Shashe and Limpopo rivers, south of Great Zimbabwe. The name is derived from either TjiKalanga and Tshivenda. The name might mean "Hill of Jackals". The Kingdom of Mapungubwe lasted about 80 years, and at its height the capital's population was about 5000 people. This archaeological site can be attributed to the BuKalanga Kingdom, which comprises the Bakalanga people from northeast Botswana, the Kalanga from Western Zimbabwe, the Nambya on the Zambezi Valley, and the Vha Venda in the northeast of South Africa. They crossed the Limpopo River to the south, and established their kingdom where the Shashe and Limpopo conjoined. Itinerary: If you arrive a day or two earlier, we recommend booking an excursion to Soweto or the Apartheid Museum. You will be picked up at any of the following spots for the start of the tour between 6 am and 7 am: 1. O.R.Tambo Airport, 2. Gautrain Centurion Station, 3. Your centrally located hotel, 4. Home pick up. Please request a quote (info@amatungulu.com ) for home pick up, or if your hotel is not on our route. (Between the O.R.Tambo Airport and our destination.) Pick up point must be indicated on the booking form. Day 1: We will begin the journey with a 5 hour drive to the Northern Province of South Africa to a Private Game Reserve, renowned for many species of magnificent game. Enjoy wildlife at our overnight stay in a Wilderness Tented Camp. This Private Game Reserve is situated in northern Limpopo, South Africa and is spread across 7,200 hectares in size, with 43 game species. There goals are to preserve and restore the environment and re-establish biological diversity while creating an up-close and personal experience that reaches into the heart and soul of every visitor. The units are set apart so as to enjoy privacy while offering comfortable furnishings, ensuring all nature lovers can relish their time in this secluded and mystifying area of South Africa. Dinner and breakfast included. A 2-hour night game drive in the reserve can be arranged as an optional activity. Day 2: A Scrumptious breakfast follows the drive to the Mapungubwe National Park where you start with a museum tour near the main gate. The extraordinary curvature and lines of of the Museum and Interpretive Centre will mesmerize all visitors but the true treasures are located inside. It was constructed with the intention of merging the natural location with the park's cultural heritage by using modern environmentally sensitive techniques, and won the World Architectural Building of the Year Award 2019. The stone-walling technique used in the building of the centre was adopted from a native method prevalent in the Mapungubwe area. The holy grail of the museum is the Golden Rhino which was discovered in a grave in 1932, more than seven centuries after the civilization inhabited the area. The museum tour ends with a short walk to a look-out point where you will be able to see the hill that was, according to legend, the inspiration behind architect Gerard Moerdijk's Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria. From here we take the “Heritage Tour”, where you will be given the opportunity to visit the elite graveyard at the top of Mapungubwe Hill, view a natural amphitheater and the entire spectrum of the region, and traverse the territory once walked upon by the ancestral Mapungubwe People - now roamed by four of the Big 5. This is a walking tour with an armed guide, lasts about 2 hours and requires a fair level of fitness as you walk up a staircase. The archaeological excavation site is also visited. The drive around the park reveal many animal species like elephant, hippopotamus, white rhinoceros, lion, leopard, cheetah, Cape wild dog, spotted hyena, brown hyena, eland, blue wildebeest, kudu, zebra, bushbuck, waterbuck, impala, klipspringer, duiker, steenbok, red hartebeest, oryx, giraffe, warthog, bush pig, aardvark and baboon. With its proximity close to Botswana and Zimbabwe, all sorts of bird species could turn up along with the Limpopo species for South Africa such as Meve’s (Long tailed) Starling, Tropical Boubou and the reclusive Pel’s Fishing Owl.There is a high density of Verreaux’s (Black) Eagle in this craggy landscape and other raptors are also prominent. Then to visit the confluence viewpoint of the Shashe and Limpopo rivers where three countries meet. We also take a walk among the riverine forest on a raised canopy walk that takes you to a hide overlooking the Limpopo River. Donate for Sustainable Tourism Our Purpose: To Develop Sustainable Tourism by donating towards an endangered animal fund and to use eco-friendly transport. Start paying for your tour now by donating an amount of your choice. Your donation will be used for an endangered animal fund, and or for the purchase of a reliable *Eco-Friendly minivan. *(low fuel consumption for less carbon emissions) Give the Cheetah a high 5 with the mouse hand One of the most important ways to enrich and lead a good life is traveling. The history of mankind reveals how human beings traveled from one place to another by feet and discovered new places. Travelling helps you to have a wonderful experience of newer cultures and their ways of life. Travelling with near and dear ones in some of the best locations of the world will give you pleasure and enjoyment. However, while traveling, one should make sure that there is sustainability in it which would definitely maintain a balance and a positive atmosphere for the local people. In the year 2017, the United Nations designed a policy which will give the opportunity to everyone to raise a global awareness which tourism can ensure by being a representative of positive change. The policy is known as International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development and it has three main aims: > Employment of eco-friendly practices (recycle, reuse and reduce) >Protection of national and cultural heritage (restoration of buildings of historical importance and ensuring the protection of endangered species) >Providing both economic and social benefits for the local people (upholding their culture, arrangement of fairs, handicrafts etc) As a responsible global citizen, you can definitely ensure all the three above aims. Here are four ways to travel more sustainable: Donating Some Amount of Money for the Local Welfare: Since one of the aims is to provide some tangible economic and social benefits to the place, you can ensure that by donating a significant amount of money to the local charity. This can be an NGO, an orphanage, a pet shelter or a food bank as well. This will definitely have a positive effect on their development. 2. Reduction of Waste: In a certain tourist spot, the local people always try to keep the place neat and clean so that the tourists find it attractive. You should always make sure that you should not make the environment dirty. In case you do not find a dustbin, carry your waste with you, without throwing those here and there. Say no to plastics- if you need to drink water then it is better to refill your water bottle than buying new bottles for the same. The new plastic bottles, even if bought, should not be thrown anywhere. Another tip would be to avoid buying packaged goods and generating more wastes. You can simply buy fresh food from the local market and have them. This has two great effects- n one hand, it shall mark your little efforts for the contribution towards local people and on the other hand, it will keep the environment clean. 3. Support the local people: Besides donating money for charitable purposes, you can make a lot of contributions for the locals. For example, you can buy stuff from the local vendors rather than buying those from any supermarket or shopping malls. Since these vendors follow the pattern of the self-sufficient economy, it would always be the best option to never bargain with them. The little amount of money that they receive by selling home-made goods might feed at least a meal to their entire family. And in the hotels, make sure to turn off the lights and fans in the room and unplug any electronic goods and gadgets. 4. Save Animals: There are many species that are becoming endangered day by day. While traveling at a place, make sure that you are not harming any animals. If you visit the local zoo, always abide by the rules of that place- never ever try to feed any animals. Also, never pose and take a photo beside any wild animal- the reason behind their quietness is sedation. The spirit of the elephants is also broken and that is why you can sit on them and take pictures. One of the most important initiatives from your part would be to say no to buy any wildlife products as trafficking and exploiting endangered animals are very common since the past few years. Thus, it can be seen that with so many little efforts, you can make travel sustainable. All you have to do is to keep your eyes open and remain conscious about everything around you. You can definitely make a positive change by contributing to the local areas. donate resposible
