1-day Tour
Cradle of Human Kind
The North-West province allows a traveller to explore a variety of rich cultural heritage and history, combined with wonderful nature and wildlife scenery not very far from Johannesburg and the O.R. Tambo airport. This is one of the best day tours in Gauteng, where we visit The Cradle of Human Kind to muse about our origins.
Itinerary:
If you arrive a day or two earlier, we recommend booking an excursion to Soweto or the Apartheid Museum.
You will be picked up at any of the following spots for the start of the tour between 8 am and 9 am:
1. O.R.Tambo Airport, 2. Gautrain Centurion Station,
3. Your centrally located hotel, 4. Home pick up
Please request a quote (amatungulutours@gmail.com) for home pick up, or if your hotel is not on our route. (Between the O.R.Tambo Airport and our destination.) Pick up point must be indicated on the booking form.
We drive to The Cradle of Human Kind/Maropeng for a tour of a journey back in time from the start of our universe, some 14-billion years ago. We visit the Tumulus building to browse the interactive displays, have lunch (own cost) at the Tumulus restaurant and then go to the Sterkfontein Caves to see where world-acclaimed fossils were discovered. The Sterkfontein Caves are owned by the University of the Witwatersrand, whose scientists have been responsible for the main excavations of the World Heritage Site. They are credited with many of the famous discoveries including the world famous “Mrs Ples” and “Little Foot”, an almost complete Australopithecus skeleton dating back more than 3-million years. The tours at the Sterkfontein Caves start above ground and then take visitors deep into the caves.
We recommend booking an excursion to Freedom Park Museum, the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria and other places of interest with us.
