The Drakensberg, Battlefields Route & Midlands Meander is another section of this tour. ​ Itinerary: Day 1: Cape Town. 1-hour drive Meet us at your centrally located hotel to start this tour for Cape Town's most famous icon: Table Mountain by the Aerial Cableway at 8 am to take in the natural beauty and stunning views. This is followed by a visit to the first botanical garden in the world to be established (in 1913) to protect local flora, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in the UNESCO-listed Cape Floral Kingdom follows. Lunch is at an African cuisine restaurant. Visiting Groot Constantia, we taste their export quality wines. We journey along the False Bay coastline to Kalk Bay harbour and stroll along the quaint cobbled streets. From here we pass Fish Hoek and Boulders Beach near Simon’s Town, home to one of the few land-based penguin colonies in the world. Choose one of the popular restaurants in the area for dinner. You overnight at Simon's Town Quayside Hotel, or similar. Day 2: Cape Town to Hermanus. 2,5-hour drive. First visit is Cape Point where the two oceans meet, and part of the Table Mountain National Park. You ascend the viewpoint with the Flying Dutchman Funicular. Drive along the scenic Chapman’s Peak drive and then picture the colourful houses at Bo-Kaap, formerly known as the Malay Quarter. Head out to Stellenbosch and visit the Spier Wine Farm for chocolate and wine tasting on the banks of the Spier dam. We go to the Vergenoegd wine farm for a duck parade show. You leave for Hermanus, home to the world’s best whale-watching when in season and overnight at the Windsor Hotel (or similar) where you have dinner. Cape Town to Hermanus. 2,5-hour drive Day 3: Hermanus to Wilderness. 6-hour drive Starting our journey to the Garden Route, we meander to the town of Oudtshoorn with Route 62. This route delivers an unforgettable South African travelling experience. Along the way there are sweet small towns to explore, home-baked farmstall goodies to taste and plenty of wineries, also Ronnie's Sex Shop, which had visitors from all over the world, judging by the graffiti on its wall. After visiting the Cango Caves for a Heritage Tour, we head down the scenic Outeniqua Pass and onto the green forests and beaches of the Garden Route. Overnight at the Wilderness Hotel (or similar) Day 4: Wilderness to Jeffreys Bay. 3-hour drive A short drive brings us to Knysna where you can choose one of the following activities to do: a boat ride for a “Dolphin Encounters” excursion of 1,5 to 2 hours at Ocean Blue Adventures, jump from the ‘highest recognized bungee from a bridge’ in the world, the Bloukrans Bridge Bungee Jump, or do a Tsitsikama Canopy Tour at Stormsriver Adventures. You can also choose to walk through the "Garden of Eden" and the "Big Tree" as another option. Our last stop for the day is at Jeffreys Bay, home to the best right hand surf break in the world! Overnight at Surf's up Accommodation @Supertubes (or similar). Day 5: Jeffreys Bay to the Addo Elephant National Park. 2-hour drive From here we go to the Addo Elephant National Park while being on the lookout for Humpback Whales at Nelson Mandela Bay, (Algoa Bay) between the months of August and December. Addo Elephant National Park conserves a wide range of biodiversity, landscapes, fauna and flora. It is home to all of Africa's Big 7: lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, rhino, the Southern right whale and the great white shark. A night game drive follows dinner at their restaurant: "Cattle Baron is famous for its steaks, having won several awards for the Best Steakhouse in South Africa. The signature dish is chateaubriand, a fillet flambéed with brandy and served with mushroom sauce and béarnaise sauce." Overnight is here in a cottage. Day 6: Addo Elephant National Park to Kei Mouth. 4-hour drive Leaving the Addo National Park, you can choose to do optional sand boarding on the dunes of the Sunday’s River. https://sundaze.co.za/sandboarding/ We head North to the spectacular Wild Coast town of Kei Mouth, where you can have an optional cruise on the Great Kei, watch Fish Eagles feed and see cycads growing in the wild. Overnight at Neptunes Cove, Kei Mouth (or similar). 4-hour drive Day 7: Kei Mouth to “The Hole in the Wall”. 4,5-hour drive Heading North to the spectacular Wild Coast along the roads of the Transkei, and see how the Xhosa people still live in their traditional rondawel huts, with farm animals grazing by the side of the road against the backdrop of the Drakensberg in the distance! You then veer off the N2 to “The Hole in the Wall”, one of South Africa's most famous tourist attractions. The iconic Hole in the Wall rock formation is a geological masterpiece. It is an offshore stack of stratified sandstone through which the power of the waves has worn an impressive hole. The locals call this "izi Khaleni" which means place of thunder. During certain seasons and water conditions, the waves clap in such a way that the concussion can be heard throughout the valley. If you want to have a real authentic traditional experience, sleep in a rural rondawel (hut) of a traditional Xhosa village if available at the time. Day 8: “The Hole in the Wall” to Oribi Gorge. 5,5-hour drive After visiting some of the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches in the world, we drive to the Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve, which lies snugly at the head of a spectacular river gorge lined with dense coastal bush and forests.) The breath-taking scenery along the Umzimkulwana river gorge makes this a photographer’s and nature lover’s paradise. Wildlife in the Oribi Gorge consists of many antelope, although the graceful oribi (after which the gorge is named) is rarely seen. (or similar) Day 9: Oribi Gorge to Durban. 2-hour drive The Hibiscus coast with its inviting stretch of Indian Ocean which sometimes presents the year-round delights of frolicking dolphins and majestic, cruising whales, provide the spectacular scenery for the drive to Durban. Your tour group now has the opportunity to choose one of the following activities for the rest of the day: optional scuba diving at Aliwal Shoal from Umkomaas, a rocky reef which is the remains of an ancient sand dune approximately 5 km off the coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Day 10: Durban to the central uKhahlamba-Drakensberg World Heritage Park. 2,5-hour drive Leaving Durban, we head to Howick to visit the Nelson Mandela Capture Site Monument. From here we take the road North on the Midlands Meander and visit Tsonga shoes and bags, the Wine Cellar and Chocolate Heaven. The Dragon Rock Reptile Center can be visited, and you can do the Drakensberg Canopy Tour. Savor lunch at one of the delightful restaurants on the way. We head to Johannesburg where you will visit the Apartheid Museum and Gold Reef City, an amusement park located on an old gold mine which closed in 1971. The park is themed around the gold rush that started in 1886 on the Witwatersrand, the buildings on the park are designed to mimic the same period and you can learn how Johannesburg came to be, how gold was discovered on the reef and descend 75 meters underground.     4-day Dark tour South Africa Dark tourism has been defined as tourism involving travel to places historically associated with death and tragedy. ​ Imagine retracing South African history from the day South Africa was colonised and brought in slavery in 1653, visiting the Castle in Cape Town to see the torture chamber, Wine Estates built by slaves and where a slave called Eva was sent to Robben Island to quarry stone as she was considered strong enough to carry the quarried stones. Then apartheid was designed, and many people were kept on Robben Island as political prisoners, including Nelson Mandela. Visit his house in Soweto, as well as many other spots where he and other cadres were involved in fighting apartheid like Liliesleaf farm, Constitutional Hill etc, while a professional Tourist guide explain the entire history to you, like the Sharpeville massacre in which police fired on a crowd of Black people, killing or wounding some 250. It was one of the first and most violent demonstrations against apartheid in South Africa. Itinerary: Day 1: Day 1: Meet us at your centrally located hotel and start this trip, or at the Nelson Mandela Gateway, V&A Waterfront from 08:00 am to board for Robben Island. This must-see excursion takes about 4 hours and includes a ferry trip to the Island where you will be guided to see all the historical sites around the Island, as well as the cell of Nelson Mandela where he would spend 18 of his 27 prison years. Built by the Dutch East India Company between 1666 and 1679, the Castle is the oldest existing building in South Africa. This follows a drive to a wine estate near the town of Stellenbosch, where the tragic history of slavery is preserved in museums, located in the farm’s original wine cellar dating back to 1740. You will do a cultural tour here to browse through the museums starting from the very beginning of the human settlement through pre–colonial pastoral usage of the land. Explore some of the multi-layered roots of rural Cape music from human development from indigenous, slave, African, European, apartheid and modern cross–cultural influences. This holistic tour comes to the heart of what Constitution Hill is all about. Nelson Mandela was incarcerated at Constitution Hill on two occasions. A permanent exhibition has been established at Constitution Hill in his honour. Visit the Apartheid Museum, where the rise and fall of apartheid is illustrated. We visit the Hector Peterson Memorial and Museum, and then the Mandela House Museum. The 1976 uprising that began in Soweto and spread countrywide profoundly changed the socio-political landscape in South Africa. During this event, many demonstrates fled to the Regina Mundi church. The police entered the church, firing live ammunition. Both the interior and the external walls of the church still bear the signs of the shootings, which you will see on this tour. A traditional lunch in Soweto is followed by a visit to the Voortrekker Momument and study marble friezes depicting the history of the Great Trek and incorporate aspects of everyday life, bloody wars, beliefs and culture of the Afrikaner Boers. In some places, this escarpment plunges hundreds of meters down to the low-lying area known as the Lowveld. This Safari holiday to South Africa is an excellent choice for people who want to enjoy spectacular scenery, combined with game drives to see the renowned big five (elephant, rhinoceros, lion, leopard and buffalo). Day 1: You will begin the journey at a centrally located spot in Gauteng and drive through some of the most scenic areas of the Eastern part of South Africa. Drive for about 5 hours to the Panorama Route then view Pinnacle Rock and experience the amazing view from God’s Window. (Lunch en-route not included, restaurants available) You will then visit the Berlin Falls, where numerous local arts and crafts are for sale. From here, you will visit Bourke’s Luck Potholes, and then head to the Blyde River Canyon, where you will overnight in a chalet at the resort: Forever Blyde Canyon (or similar). Dinner at the restaurant. ​ Day 2: You will leave after breakfast to take a boat trip on the Blyde Dam. An interpretation tour will take you to the Kadishi Tufa waterfall and the Three Rondawels. An abundance of wildlife will keep you distracted while learning more about the natural history of the Blyde Canyon. The Kadishi Tufa waterfall, at 200 meters (around 660 feet) in height, is the second tallest Tufa Waterfall on earth and also known as ‘the weeping face of nature’. From here you will head to the heart of the Kruger National Park through the Orpen gate, watching game as you head to the Satara Rest Camp. (Lunch en-route not included, restaurants available) The Satara Rest Camp is situated in an excellent game viewing area, with the bush relatively open and the animals plentiful and diverse. Satara is well wooded and the bird-life is prolific. The calls of owls and night-jars add to the symphony that is punctuated intermittently by the whoop of hyena, the screech of jackal and the roars of lion. Enjoy a *Sunset Game Drive which transitions into the night where you can see the nocturnal activities of Kruger's secretive creatures, and lasts at least 3 hours. Dinner at the restaurant follows. Day 4: Breakfast follows a tour to Eswatini, with a show of glass blowing at Ngwenya Glass factory which evolved as a community project that recycles used glass, King Sobuza Memorial Park, the Candle factory which also evolved as a community project where locals learnt and perfected the skill of molding wax to shapes and patterns that are unique, Go Rural – another community based project focused on the use of special type of grass to weave different household artifacts. Lastly, Mantenga cultural village and Mantenga falls. On the whole, the tour is also filled in by a continuous narrative by our professional guide touching on aspects of African culture and traditions which are still alive in the country through the country’s monarchical democratic system as they prefer to call it. Overnight at a lodge on the banks of the crocodile river, just outside the park. Day 5: You have the option to drive along the new declared UNESCO world heritage site, the Barberton Makhonjwa Geotrail.
